Honest Insight, Informed Decisions

Helping homeowners make informed decisions before committing to a build or renovation.

Fully independent advice, tailored to your project

Most issues in building projects start well before construction. They come from unclear budgets, rushed decisions and unchecked assumptions. Getting clarity early helps reduce delays, unnecessary stress, avoidable costs and outcomes that fall short of what was intended.”

Key Topics

Each review focuses on the parts of a project that tend to have the biggest influence once decisions start getting locked in.

  • This commonly includes:

    • What you are trying to achieve and what matters most

    • What is included, what is assumed, and where gaps exist

    • How the budget lines up with expectations

    • Decisions that are likely to drive cost

    • Areas of risk or uncertainty

    • Which decisions need to be made now and which can wait

    • Information that is missing or still unclear

    • How existing designers, builders, and consultants fit together

    • How the project is likely to unfold once construction begins

    • Whether the project is ready to move forward

The review is tailored to the stage of the project and the information available.

How It Works

  • Begin by completing a short online form that outlines your project, where you are up to and what you want clarity on.

  • Your submission is briefly reviewed to confirm the service is a good fit and that meaningful guidance can be provided. This ensures the advisory is appropriate before proceeding further.

  • Once suitability is confirmed, the service scope and terms are accepted. You will then be asked to provide any additional information that may assist the review. Plans are not required but if available they can be uploaded to a secure digital folder. The more detail provided, the more specific the advice can be.

  • Your information is reviewed in advance of the meeting with a focus on scope, budget, risk and decision timing.

  • A structured 90-minute digital meeting is held to work through the findings, discuss implications and answer questions. The focus is on clarity, trade-offs and what to be aware of before committing further.

  • Following the call, a written summary is provided capturing the key points discussed, along with clear next steps. Advice is based on the information provided.

Who Is This For?

  • Those planning a new build or major renovation who want clarity before committing.

  • Are early in the process and want a clearer picture of what lies ahead

  • Have plans underway but still feel unsure about cost, risk or next steps

  • Want an independent, experienced perspective before locking in decisions

  • Prefer measured decisions over rushing into commitments

  • Are making a significant financial investment and want fewer surprises

The service is delivered online and is available nationwide across New Zealand.

Trusted Advice

Over the years, I have spoken with many homeowners who experienced unexpected costs, delays and unnecessary stress during their projects. In most cases the issues started well before construction and could have been mitigated with clearer thinking and better advice early on. Independent, experience-based guidance at the beginning is often missing which is why BG Build Advisory was created.

My aim is to help homeowners understand the implications of decisions before they are locked in, reduce avoidable risk and move forward with a clearer view of what lies ahead. A relatively small investment early can prevent much larger problems later and lead to a better overall outcome.
